Have you explored the Roosevelt Row Arts District? If you want to support local art and culture in the historical downtown Phoenix area, then you’ll definitely want to add that to your to-do list this summer. Also known as RoRo by the locals, the Roosevelt Row Arts District is a walkable, creative district in the urban core of downtown Phoenix that is nationally known for its arts and cultural events, award-winning restaurants, galleries, boutiques and live music. Roosevelt Row begins at 7th Avenue and extends east to 16th Street. On the north side it begins at Interstate 10 and extends south to Fillmore Street.

Once a run-down area filled with abandoned buildings and former crack houses, talented local artists begin utilizing the space for affordable studio and gallery space. And thanks to the arts becoming a major factor in the revitalization of the area, the Roosevelt Row Arts District has since re-emerged as one of the most dynamic areas in downtown Phoenix.

This fantastic district is fostering an urban renewal with rehabilitated bungalows and new infill projects, and connects downtown Phoenix to historic neighborhoods including F.Q. Story, Willow, Roosevelt, Historic Roosevelt and Grand Avenue just to name a few.

Even if you’ve been here before, there’s always a variety of activities, artists, and festivals to entertain even the most seasoned signs of downtown Phoenix visitors and natives. With the lingering summer temperatures, it’s hard to believe that Halloween is just around the corner. If you are looking to have a spooky good time this year, here are a few of the hottest Halloween Festivities happening in downtown Phoenix, Arizona.

 

  • 8th Annual Poe-Fest: October 29-31st at Hotel San Carlos hosted by Arizona Curriculum Theater.
  • Orpheum Theatres Ghost Tours: October 30th at The Orpheum Theater in downtown Phoenix.
  • A Vampire Tale: October 27-31st and November 3-5th at the Phoenix Theatre and often referred to as the “Nutcracker of Halloween.”
  • Howl-o-Ween: October 28-29th at the Phoenix Zoo, spooky fun for the whole family.
  • Dia de los Muertos Celebration: October 29-30th at Desert Botanical Gardens. Dancing, music and storytelling at the Gardens.
  • Zombie Walk 8: October 29th at the Warehouse District. Take a zombie walk through downtown Phoenix or enjoy the adult-only Blood Pub Crawl (ticket required).

Cinco de Mayo Downtown Phoenix Festival

Happy Cinco de Mayo! For those who don’t know, Cinco de Mayo celebrates the triumph of the Mexican army at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Though many associate Cinco de Mayo with Mexican Independence Day, this victory occurred over fifty years after Mexico's Independence Day, which is celebrated on September 16th. So now that you know a little bit of history, it’s time to celebrate at the Cinco de Mayo Downtown Phoenix Festival!

The 23rd Annual Cinco de Mayo Phoenix Festival begins this Saturday, May 7th from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm and Sunday, May 8th from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm and takes place between the skyscrapers in downtown Phoenix at 200 West Washington Street, Phoenix, AZ. The Cinco de Mayo Phoenix Festival is one of the largest multicultural festivals in Arizona. This two day street festival provides attendees with non-stop fun, music, games, and giveaways. The event also includes live music including Platinum Artists, scholarship giveaway, lucha libre, ballet folklorico, and kid’s zone with interactive rides and games. Cityscape Holiday Ice Rink lights up Downtown Phoenix

Make a trip to the heart of downtown Phoenix and enjoy the whimsy and fun of ice-skating! The CitySkate Outdoor Holiday Ice Rink returns to Central Avenue at CityScape Phoenix and lights up downtown Phoenix once again with festive holiday delight that’s perfect for all ages.

Now in its sixth year, close to 200,000 holiday revelers will descend upon CityScape Phoenix to take part in the eight weeks of CitySkate--the largest and only real outdoor ice rink in the valley. Located at 1 E. Washington Street, Suite 300 in Phoenix, the CitySkate ice skating rink is 5,442 square feet of real ice. New this year is a thirty-six foot tree dramatically placed in the middle of the rink and nightly light shows starting at 7:00pm. Guests can also enjoy a nightly snowfall in Patriots Park. Yoga Rocks the Park Comes to Downtown Phoenix

Did you know that practicing yoga for as little as ten minutes a day can help reduce stress and boost emotional health in addition to improving flexibility, strength, and balance? That’s just one of the many reasons we’re excited for the upcoming Yoga Rocks the Park Event in downtown Phoenix!

This Sunday, September 13th from 11:00 a.m.to 3:30 p.m. at Steele Indian School Park located at 300 E. Indian School Road, the Yoga Rocks the Park community invites participants to gather for a free yoga event that encourages community wellness. The event features an outdoor all-levels seventy-five minute yoga class (beginners welcome), inspiring local yoga teachers, and Camp YRP (for your little yogis). Classes are accompanied by live music as well as unique opportunities to support local businesses in the Phoenix community in the health and wellness industries.

The Yoga Rocks the Park Community has organically grown from thirty yogis in Denver, to a collective of over 25,000  National and International yogis, yoga teachers, community members, musicians, yoga studios, festival partners, non-profit organizations and mindful businesses who believe in the power of coming together with like-minded friends on a common mission - to grow the practice of yoga, give back to our communities, bring light to inspiring yoga teachers, emerging musicians and innovations in wellness. Each year from February to October Yoga Rocks the Park, hosted by non-profit Breathe and Believe LLC., gathers community and brings this wellness event series to its local community.
