Have You Explored the Roosevelt Row Arts District?

Have you explored the Roosevelt Row Arts District? If you want to support local art and culture in the historical downtown Phoenix area, then you’ll definitely want to add that to your to-do list this summer. Also known as RoRo by the locals, the Roosevelt Row Arts District is a walkable, creative district in the urban core of downtown Phoenix that is nationally known for its arts and cultural events, award-winning restaurants, galleries, boutiques and live music. Roosevelt Row begins at 7th Avenue and extends east to 16th Street. On the north side it begins at Interstate 10 and extends south to Fillmore Street.

Once a run-down area filled with abandoned buildings and former crack houses, talented local artists begin utilizing the space for affordable studio and gallery space. And thanks to the arts becoming a major factor in the revitalization of the area, the Roosevelt Row Arts District has since re-emerged as one of the most dynamic areas in downtown Phoenix.

This fantastic district is fostering an urban renewal with rehabilitated bungalows and new infill projects, and connects downtown Phoenix to historic neighborhoods including F.Q. Story, Willow, Roosevelt, Historic Roosevelt and Grand Avenue just to name a few.

Even if you’ve been here before, there’s always a variety of activities, artists, and festivals to entertain even the most seasoned signs of downtown Phoenix visitors and natives. Go Green at the 9th Annual Earth Day Phoenix

by The Russo Team

Go Green at the 9th Annual Earth Day Phoenix

Earth Day is an annual event created to celebrate the planet's environment and raise public awareness about pollution. The day, marked on April 22nd, is observed worldwide with rallies, conferences, outdoor activities and service projects.

Started as a grassroots movement, Earth Day created public support for the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and contributed to the passage of the Clean Air Act, the Water Quality Improvement Act, the Endangered Species Act and several other environmental laws. The idea for Earth Day was proposed by then-Sen. Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin, who died in 2005.

The first Earth Day was in 1970. Nelson, after seeing the damage done by a 1969 massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California, was inspired to organize a national "teach-in" that focused on educating the public about the environment.

Spend some time over the weekend getting your green on by stopping by the 9th Annual Earth Day Phoenix event on Saturday, April 21st from 11am to 4pm at Steele Indian School Park, 300 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix. Celebrate Earth Day with exhibitors, mini eco-classes and more. This is a zero-waste event, meaning all waste will be recyclable or compostable. Parking is limited so alternative modes of transportation such as light rail or biking are recommended. Enjoy music, face and body painting and grab lunch from one of the three food trucks.

This event is hosted by Keep Phoenix Beautiful, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that’s an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful. Every day, Keep Phoenix Beautiful provides tools to empower our diverse communities to improve overall quality of life. Their vision is a vibrant Phoenix where each neighborhood is a healthy, beautiful place to live. For more event details please visit keepphxbeautiful.org/earth-day-phoenix/

July 2017 RE/MAX National Housing Report

by The Russo Team

July 2017 RE/MAX National Housing Report

Halfway through 2017, the U.S. housing market is on pace for another record year as four of the last six months have topped same month sales from 2016, according to the July 2017 RE/MAX National Housing Report. June home sales were 1.4 percent higher than June 2016, which was previously the month with the most home sales in the nine-year history of the report.

The combination of increased sales and a record low inventory that slipped further to 2.8 months resulted in higher sales prices. June’s median sales price of $245,000, up 7.5 percent over last June, also set a RE/MAX National Housing report record. In fact, prices increased in fifty of the report’s fifty-three markets. The average number of Days on Market dropped to a report-record low of forty-seven, while inventory dropped year-over-year in eighty-seven percent of the markets. The June 2017 average Days on Market was 47, the lowest Days on Market in the history of the report.

“Sellers continue to benefit from limited inventory, getting top-dollar for their homes, and as a result, overall sales are at a record high,” said Adam Contos, RE/MAX Co-CEO. “But buyers shouldn’t be discouraged. Mortgage rates are still relatively low and the market may be taking a positive turn, albeit subtle, as recent Labor Department data showed a decline in open construction jobs which could mean more workers focused on new home builds.”

June 2017 RE/MAX National Housing Report

by The Russo Team

June 2017 RE/MAX National Housing Report

After a brief dip in April home sales, the U.S. housing market returned to seasonally high sales in May, increasing 20.6% from the previous month and 4.3 percent from May 2016, according to the RE/MAX National Housing Report. In fact, it was the strongest May in terms of home sales in the nine-year history of the report. In addition, the average number of Days on Market dropped to a record low of fifty-one, consistent with the Months Supply of Inventory shrinking to 2.6 months – both records for the report.

Other notable numbers:

  • Over two-thirds of the metro areas experienced an increase in transactions.
  • The May 2017 Median Sales Price of $232,500 was the second highest in the history of the report, only behind the August 2008 Media Sales Price of $236,062.
  • Decreasing 16.2 percent from May 2016, inventory continued to decline year-over-year. This is the 103rd consecutive month of year-over-year declines dating back to October 2008.
  • The U.S. continues to enjoy rising home values as fifty-two of the fifty-three metro areas experienced a price increase.

“In May, we saw an uptick of both loan applications and home sales, which is encouraging in terms of more people getting into the market for homes,” said Adam Contos, RE/MAX Co-CEO. “We don’t expect that the Federal Reserve’s announcement on Wednesday to raise interest rates a quarter of a point will greatly affect the market’s momentum. But housing demand only intensifies the tug-of-war with tight inventories driving prices up.”
