Hug the ones you love

This time of year is steeped in traditions from family recipes to favorite holiday songs and of course, it always seems the four weeks of the year come too soon and leave too fast. As we rush around, busy with shopping, baking and parties, it is important to remember why and where we come from.

This year, I get to spend the holiday with my beautiful daughter Lianne, and my amazing mother. To me, the importance of the holiday is not always about the gifts and the food, although that part is a lot of fun, I find joy in the simple things, like being able to hug my daughter and my mother.

When I watched this video, I couldn’t help but think how lucky I am to have a house full of guests to celebrate the ending of 2011 with. I know this year has been especially difficult for many people out there, some of which may have been left with no one to hug. The spirit of the holiday season is a great time to spread joy and hope to those around us even if it is as simple as a hug. So instead of worry about what to buy or what to bake, how about giving a free hug? I plan on hugging those I love, as often as I can. Happy Holidays – Frank
