In the early 1900s, four subdivisions were platted, which made plans for 41 Bungalow Style home sites. Willo is now one of downtown Phoenix’s largest historic districts with over 900 homes.
Voted the “Best Historic Home Tour in the City” in 2012, Willo is proud to offer an annual tour of homes for Valley visitors who want to learn more about these unique homes.
Historic Homes:
Willo is actually made up of twenty-two individual subdivisions. There are difference between each, which can be seen in architecture, landscaping, lot sizes and different streets.
Homes built in the 1930s offer a variety of architecture from Tudor, Greek Revival, American Colonial, Spanish Colonial and Pueblo Revival. During the Great Depression, construction in Willo Historic District was brought to a standstill.
After the development of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) construction began again. Later architecture styles included French Provincial and Monterey, which would eventually become what we commonly know now as the “ranch style” home.
